What Does Reduced Mean in Chemistry?
What Does Reduced Mean in Chemistry? What does reduced mean in chemistry? Yes, it's true. No, it's not just a matter of interesting sounding words that catch your eye.Reducing means lowering the chemical's level. The chemical is no longer present in its active state. In order to make the chemicals work again, they must be converted back into an inactive form. Sometimes, this inactive form will also be referred to as 'reactive'non-functioning.'Such substances are commonly called 'uranium(II) complexes' by chemists. These molecules are non-functional and the most abundant in the earth's crust.Uranium(II) complexes are highly reactive molecules that can bond to oxygen and transfer electrons to it causing it to become unstable. The other atom being taken away from the oxygen can become part of a new molecule that can bond to another molecule, which can cause a chain reaction. In nature, these atoms can react with water (a reactive gas) to form the heavier molecules. Even though they don't exist in their natural form, their bonds with one another makes them very functional.Chemists use the concepts of 'reduction and oxidation' to describe how one substance reacts with another. When this reaction occurs in nature, there are two forms of the reaction. Inorganic compounds have a carbon to oxygen double bond at the fourth or fifth position of the bond while organic compounds have a bond to carbon on the third or fourth position of the bond. Some plants use the presence of these reactive agents as a source of nutrition and many are even consumed by animals as food. Their value in nutrition have been proved time and again, but is there a benefit in reducing the amount of this compound in our body?Even though a hydrogen bond can not be made in nature, when it comes to artificial reactors, it can be broken down to produce compounds that can serve to combat the uranium(II) complexes in our body. The following report will give you a better understanding of how it works and why i t is important for you to learn about it.

Are Online Courses for You 8 Questions to Ask Yourself
Are Online Courses for You 8 Questions to Ask Yourself Image via Pixabay.com At Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida, online courses are taken by students through a website called Canvas. In Canvas, professors and TAs provide the course material through modules that students will have access to. Professors have the option of posting quizzes and tests online through the Canvas website. These tests usually have time limits, just like traditional, classroom-based courses, and are open-note. Many professors make the most of the online nature of their course by posting interesting links to sites around the web that will help their students better meet the course objectives. Some Florida State online courses donât have required textbooks; instead, students make use of readings, PowerPoint presentations, videos, and texts that are provided by the professor and are posted under âModulesâ on Canvas. Even though your physical presence in a classroom wonât be required for many online courses out there (which may sound like a dream to some students), there are still many difficulties that come with being enrolled in an online course. As I mentioned before, you wonât be in a classroom. Because of this, it might be easier for some individuals to forget about an upcoming test in the course or an assignment that is due at midnight. Without a physically present professor and the familiar classroom surroundings, students have grown accustomed to, some may find it difficult to remind themselves to get a virtual assignment finished. Some may even let deadlines slip by without realizing there was an assignment in the first place. So, after reading through the above, how do you know if an online course is going to be right for you? Here are eight questions to ask yourself before you enroll in online courses 1. Am I doing this because it seems like the easy route? Online courses are not the easy route. If anything, online courses can be more difficult. You wonât have the professor right in front of you to ask questions and itâs up to you to set deadlines for when assignments get finished. Donât take an online course if youâre thinking this is the easy way to pass this particular class. 2. Do I have the technology to complete an online course efficiently? As the name implies, online courses are going to be, for the most part, strictly taught through online means. This means that you will need to have access to a computer. If you donât own a home computer or a laptop, you will need to be prepared for visits to your campusâs library or your local public library. Some libraries allow you to check out a laptop for use at home! 3. Am I motivated enough to be in an online course? Taking online courses requires a lot of motivation. You wonât be face-to-face with your professor. Sometimes, it might not even seem like youâre in the course. Thatâs why itâs important to have the motivation to complete this particular course. If youâre a self-motivated person, you can easily handle online courses. 4. Why am I taking this course online? What are your reasons for taking this online course? If itâs because you think this course is going to be easier because itâs online, you may want to rethink taking an online course. 5. How organized am I? A lot of online courses require submitted documents and projects. Are you the type of person to keep text, photos, and videos carefully labeled and categorized in your laptopâs folders? Or do your documents seem to have the tendency to turn up in the most random of places? 6. Am I able to interact meaningfully online with other people? Interacting with your classmates, professors, and TAs through email is a staple of online classes. If youâre going to take online courses, will you be able to effectively communicate with the other people sharing in this course? Discussion board posts are a common thing in many online courses. If you know you can do this, donât feel intimidated by online courses. 7. Can I afford to take an online course? Price is another thing to take into consideration. Online courses usually cost more than traditional classroom courses. Will you be able to afford the extra hundreds of dollars taking an online course is going to cost you? 8. Am I comfortable with using technology? How good are you with navigating the Internet? Typing emails? Communicating with others online? After you have asked yourself all of these questions, look back and see how comfortable you feel with each question. If your answers put you at ease with the thought of taking online courses, then you are ready to enroll in an online course next semester. Good luck!

Chemistry A Molecular Approach - Does it Stand By Its Claims?
Chemistry A Molecular Approach - Does it Stand By Its Claims?Chemistry A Molecular Approach is not as good as its predecessors. If you had read it in the first two editions, then you know that this is not the same book as in the first one. There are some major changes, and it is no longer a book about the Fundamental Concepts of Chemistry but more like a step-by-step recipe book. The author of this book is now Dr. John Stewart, who has taught Chemistry for more than 20 years at Leeds University. However, there is no relation between this book and his Ph.D. from the same university. Some of the new chapters are not mentioned in previous versions of the book, so you cannot learn them if you have not read the previous versions of this book. When the authors start the study of the fundamental concepts of chemistry, they focus on the chemical properties of the elements and compounds. But, when they are in the last pages of the book, they introduce the molecular theory, also called 'molecula r mechanics' and some of the phenomena that are related to it. It is strange that the authors give so much importance to properties are introduced very late, but in the end it makes the book very boring. You would not understand all the concepts of molecular physics, and that is why the authors introduce other topics instead. There are lots of problems in reading textbooks for free, so this is no different. As I have already said, it is not a good book for a first-time student who wants to learn chemistry by doing. If you want to be able to practice, then you need to do some experiments and it would be a waste of your time to read the book and spend some days doing experiments, only to get disappointed because it does not teach you much. The reason for that is that there are only a few concepts taught in the book. In fact, only the basics are covered. Even those are not in the right order and there are some confusing statements. You may even ask yourself why you can not download it as a PDF file for free. But the fact is that this book is now being distributed on a paid basis. However, the information in the book still remains the same.If you want to read a book about Chemical Physics, you may find Chemistry A Molecular Approach very useful. However, if you just want to learn more about chemistry and do experiments, then you should try other books instead.
Chemistry Textbook Online - Do You Want to Learn Online?
Chemistry Textbook Online - Do You Want to Learn Online?Online chemistry textbooks may offer more flexibility than traditional textbooks, but often these can't deliver exactly what students need. Online reading materials will vary in content, genre, tone, and length; not to mention the amount of time to complete the work. This is why students are better off turning to online learning when it comes to taking chemistry. One of the great things about online reading materials is that students have the opportunity to check on their grades before committing them to the paper to be worked on in a classroom setting. This makes for a more satisfying experience and allows students to feel like they have taken the time to learn something more. When the work is done, this can help them come to a stronger understanding of the subject matter, which helps them make better decisions as to whether to continue with study or head off to a different area of interest.Online reading materials allow student s to do something that traditional textbooks simply can't: read along with the text. In a traditional textbook, the entire book has to be read line-by-line to understand all of the information contained within. Reading online is usually more time-efficient, especially if the content is of high interest to the student. Textbooks can only provide so much information at once, but students who have the opportunity to read online will find they can take in as much information as they want while making sure that all important points are covered.Students don't need to worry about using up all of their time studying online because they can finish most of the material in a given amount of time. As long as students know what they are looking for, they should be able to find a chemistry textbook online that they can use in class. If they aren't sure where to begin, it's wise to seek out a course of study that is easy to understand and follow; in other words, one that doesn't require more study ing than it takes to learn a lesson.By utilizing an online chemistry textbook online, students have the ability to access the information that they need without having to spend their time worrying about the time it will take to learn everything that is needed. Online reading materials come with quizzes, and students can use them to track how well they're doing as they read. For those who take tests, online reading materials come with high quality tests that can show results and give tips for better grades. This type of learning environment offers more structure and a more realistic assessment of the student's knowledge.Online learning is a great opportunity for students to receive a true education at a lower cost. The online reading materials are more structured, which ensures that students have a firm understanding of the concepts that they're reading about. They also give students a chance to interact with their teachers, so they're encouraged to make a better grade when it comes to chemistry readings.Students need to take advantage of the free learning opportunities offered by online reading materials. They can have a better understanding of the subject matter, their classmates, and even earn better grades while benefiting from a more focused learning environment.

While it was considered a bit old-fashioned, practised only by grandmothers, more and more people are choosing to embroider in their spare time. From cushions to clothing, an embroidered pattern is a great way to personalise textiles or make a present for a loved one. You don't want to display your embroidery permanently in a hoop. (Source: palichka)If youâre making a present out of your embroidery, you might want to put it in a frame first. Framing your hand embroidery means that itâll last longer and itâs also a better way to display it. Framed embroidery looks much better than loose embroidery. Itâs also much easier to hang up in a frame and show off the embroidery techniques you've been learning. So why should you frame embroidery yourself? For one, professional framing can be quite expensive. Not only do you have to pay for all the materials, but you also have to pay the professional who puts it all together. You donât want to pay a fortune for framing, especially if you spent the time making the embroidery yourself. After all, doing it yourself is a large part of the enjoyment when it comes to embroidery. Of course, it needs to be enjoyable, too.Framing allows you to choose your materials, for one.Since you chose your fabric and t hread, you may also want to choose the best way to display your creation. Why not make the most of this opportunity to add a personal touch. Framing your embroidery designs is a way to further personalise your work and you can do so with pearls, ribbons, spangles, etc. Have fun with it!Accessories for Framing EmbroideryLike with embroidery itself, you need the right gear for framing it. Get your workspace ready because you donât want to be partway through the process and realise that youâre missing something important like scissors, card, or embroidery needles. Get everything ready before you start framing your work. (Source: katetsib)To frame embroidery, you want to start by finding a frame. Just like with paintings, a frame can also hold embroidery. Itâs what draws our eye to the work so you should make sure that it matches the tastes of the person whoâs receiving the embroidery. There are frames you can personalise. These neutral-coloured frames are often cheaper than other frames and you can then decorate them. Make sure theyâre the right size, too.You should also get cotton wool as you can use it to add relief to your embroidery. This also needs to fit within the frame. You can buy it and cut it at home if itâs too big. It is cotton wool, after all.Youâll then need a piece of card the same size as the inside of the frame. However, the card canât be too thick or you wonât be able to close the frame. You may even find some suitable card lying around thatâll do the trick. You neednât break the bank looking for some card .The card used in calendars often does the trick.Youâll also need some basic arts and crafts materials like:ScissorsA utility knifeGlueA rulerPinsTapeYouâll find all of these items in a haberdashery. Whether you need stuff for sewing, knitting, crochet, patchwork, scrapbooking, or embroidery, you can find them in arts and crafts shops and haberdasheries. If you can't find the embroidery supplies you're looking for, consider looking online.Made a mistake?Learn how to remove embroidery. This needs to be cut to the internal measurements of the frame. Your fabric needs to be about 5cm bigger on each side of the card. You can then cut it to size once youâve got your frame. Place your embroidery onto the card. If you want to add relief, you can place cotton wool between the card and the fabric. Turn everything over. Fold the overhang of your embroidery design onto the card and glue it down.Pay particular attention to the corners. Cut the corners if you canât fold over the fabric. You donât want any irregularities once itâs all framed. To make sure the fabric doesnât come off, you can always glue bits of paper over the top. Again, make sure that theyâre not covering the corners. Now you just have to put your embroidery in your frame and youâre done. Some people ma y want to make their frame from scratch. To do this, youâll need pieces of wood and some good wood glue. You need to cut the wood to the size you want and cut diagonal joints at the edges. You can do this without glue but itâll still take some time. Start by checking that the edges of your embroidery are uniform. The overhang needs to be the same on the left and the right and the top and the bottom. This will allow you to centre your embroidery. You can use thread to hold your embroidery in place. (Source: NicolePina)To avoid creases, iron your embroidery. Once itâs flat, place your embroidery onto the card. The overhang will allow you to position your embroidery nicely in the centre of the frame. To attach it without glue, youâre going to need to sew it down. With a needle and thread, start on one of the larger of the sides. Sew the two larger sides and then do the smaller sides. This will give you a sort of grid.Make sure that you opt for a solid thread and pass two or three times if you need to. You donât want to break a thread. Otherwise, your embroidery will hang.As you can guess this technique isnât for beginners. However, if you get it right, it will hold your embroidery in place and you wonât have to worry about your embroidery coming loose, either. If youâre doing this for the first time, start with a small project. The bigger the embroidery, the harder it will be to keep in position as you attach it t o the card. Once youâve got the technique sorted, you can move onto bigger projects.Should You Frame Embroidery with or without a Glass Pane?Whether or not you use a glass pane is down to each embroiderer. There are advantages and disadvantages to using one. Depending on the thread you use, you may want to think about whether or not you use a glass pane. (Source: You can use thread to hold your embroidery in place. (Source: bluemorphos)Some choose not to use a glass pane for the following reasons:Humidity: the humidity can get trapped behind the glass and damage the embroidery. Youâll need to take the frame apart, clean it, and put it all back together. It can flatten the embroidery: if you want your project to have some relief, you donât want to flatten it behind the glass. However, there are also advantages to having it behind glass. The glass protects the embroidery from dirt and dust. Some argue that the glass makes the whole thing look more âfinishedâ. Of course, this is a matter of taste. After all, the decision is yours. With many different hand embroidery stitches (cross stitch, back stitch, crewel stitch, etc.), it can be difficult to get started. If you need help with embroidery stitches, needlework, and finding embroider y patterns, you might want to consider getting help from a private tutor. You can start with cross stitches before moving onto other stitches like the stem stitch, satin stitch, chain stitch, backstitch, and running stitch, for example. You can then move onto ribbon embroidery, machine embroidery, embellishing, Hardanger, Blackwork, etc. There are three main types of tutorial available from the tutors on Superprof.Face-to-face tutorials are great for getting bespoke and tailored tuition as you're the only student in the class. This service comes at a cost and face-to-face private tutorials tend to be the most costly per hour. However, they're also the most cost-effective as every minute of a session is spent helping you learn.Online tutorials are similar but your tutor won't be there in the room with you. While these are usually better for academic subjects, if you've got a good webcam, microphone, and internet connection, there's no reason a talented embroider couldn't help you lear n remotely. Online private tutors tend to cheaper than face-to-face tutorials. Finally, group tutorials are good for those on a budget as the cost of the tutor's time and experience will be shared amongst all the students in attendance. While you won't get as much one-on-one time with your tutor, you will pay less per student per hour.Take sewing classes on Superprof now.

What is it Like to Attend The University of Georgia The tutors behind Varsity Tutors are not just here to teach theyre sharing their college experiences as well. Kellan is an Atlanta tutor and 2012 graduate of The University of Georgia who majored in Philosophy and International Affairs with a minor in French. She currently specializes inLiterature tutoring, Writing tutoring, French tutoring, and Essay Editing tutoring. Check out Kellans review of her school: VT: Describe the campus setting and transportation options. How urban or safe is the campus? Are there buses or do you need a car/bike? Kellan: The University of Georgia is conveniently located at the center of the Athens metropolitan area near the downtown district. University and city buses provide mobility for students throughout the city, and the area is bike-friendly, if youre willing to brave some hills. The campus and downtown are safe areas frequently patrolled by police. VT: How available are the professors, academic advisers, and teaching assistants? Kellan: I have been very impressed with the availability of professors, advisers, and TAs. They are very welcoming during their routine office hours and are very willing to schedule an appointment to meet if necessary. VT: How would you describe the dorm life rooms, dining options, location, socialization opportunities with other students? Kellan: Dorm life is a great option! And a requirement for first year students. Most dorm rooms are shared, although there are a few apartment-style options, and activities such as educational programs or pick-up games are always happening. The dorms are located right next to academic buildings and the delicious, award-winning dining halls VT: Which majors/programs are best represented and supported? What did you study and why? Did the university do a good job supporting your particular area of study? Kellan: UGA is best known for its Business, Forestry, International Affairs, and Liberal Arts schools. I studied Philosophy, International Affairs, and French to receive a well-rounded education and prepare for a career in environmental policy. The university provided many great resources for educational development such as lectures, film screenings, and career fairs. VT: How easy or difficult was it for you to meet people and make friends as a freshman? Does Greek life play a significant role in the campus social life? Kellan: Making friends as a freshman is aided by the university activity fairs which showcase hundreds of on-campus clubs. Students can also participate in intramural sports, club sports, and volunteer opportunities in the city. Greek life is prevalent; however, it is easy to make friends without being a member of one of these organizations. VT: How helpful is the Career Centerand other student support services?Do many reputable companies recruit on campus? Kellan: The Career Center has helped me tremendously through resume critiques, mock interviews, and hosting seminars on career development. Many large companies recruit on campus such as Macys, Lilly, The Carter Center, and the U.S. Department of State. VT: How are the various study areas such aslibraries, student union, and dorm lounges? Are they over-crowded, easily available, spacious? Kellan: The campus has many great study areas: dorm lounges, dining halls, several libraries, or the base of an old tree in the historic North Campus. These spots can be slightly crowded, but everyone is willing to share a table. VT: Describe the surrounding town. What kinds of outside establishments / things to do are there that make it fun, boring, or somewhere in between? To what extent do students go to the downtown area of the city versus staying near campus? Kellan: Athens is a vivacious city with a highly developed art and music scene. On weekends, students can find cheap or free concerts, stroll the historic neighborhoods, shop in unique boutiques or vintage stores, or visit a great park, like the State Botanical Garden. With the downtown area located across the street from campus, many students venture downtown to study at coffee shops or frequent the many bars/music venues at night. VT: How big or small is the student body? Were you generally pleased or displeased with the typical class sizes? Kellan: The student body is around 36,000; however, the upper-level classes in my majors were small and provided a positive atmosphere to participate in class discussions. VT: Describe one memorable experience with a professor and/or class. Perhaps one you loved the most or one youregretthe most. Kellan: In my first upper-level French class, our professor invited us to his weekly afternoon meetings at a restaurant to socialize and discuss topics such as religion or philosophy. I was intimidated the first time I went and was surrounded by graduate students, but the experience pushed me outside my comfort zone and gave me an opportunity to connect with others in my school.
